I’m so excited that after working with them on Little Women this past December, I’m officially going to be coming on as a full ensemble member with Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre. Hedgepig works to elevate womxn’s voices by reimagining the classics, and creates work that prioritizes ensemble and greater community. Their work inspires me, and I’m so looking forward to helping them continue to grow the company this coming year. xo

An All-Star Lineup!

Comin’ at you on the count of 1, 2, 1 2 3 4!

20 years ago, the sketch troupe I was a part of in college, Jimmy’s Traveling All-Stars, was born. In the happiest case of the stars aligning (pun intended), 20 years of Jimmy’s are going to be getting together for a one-night-only 20th Anniversary Show at The Lyric Hyperion in Los Angeles on Friday, March 6th.

I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it — it’ll be a night of friends, old and new, lots of love, and lots of laughter. More updates to come, but in the meanwhile, check out one of my favorite intro videos from my time in Jimmy’s below. xo

Another spin around the 'SUDS' cycle!

Happy new year! To start 2020 off in one of my favorite ways, I’ll be rejoining the wonderful Bluelaces Theatre Company as a cast member to bring their delightful play SUDS to Lincoln Center Education. Designed especially for audiences with autism and other developmental differences, SUDS is immersive and sensory-based, and explores a fun-filled adventure through Lavender’s Laundromat as audiences do their laundry and become members of the Laundry League. SUDS will be in residence at the Clark Studio Theater at Lincoln Center from February 1st-9th, with performances at 11 AM each day and also at 2 PM on weekends. Merry Christmas from the March Sisters

This past week, I was lucky enough to experience the joy of Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre’s upcoming adaptation of Little Women directed by Brooke Viegut. Stepping in as an informal understudy when the actress playing Meg March was called away for a multi-day commercial shoot, I had the chance to play and work through the script with the company as they continued to build this wonderful new production.

Though I’ll be in the audience for the run of Little Women, I encourage you to come see it for yourself — it’s a cast of five women, and explores the classic story’s themes of sisterhood, resilience, and love, set against a backdrop of holiday cheer. It’s not to be missed! Little Women runs December 13th-22nd at South Oxford Space’s Grand Room, a gorgeous historic ballroom in Brooklyn, and you can find your tickets here. Fa la la la la! xo

Thank You to All of Muse's Brave Heroes!

The inaugural production of Muse, presented by Bluelaces Theater Company, closed on November 3rd at The Secret Theatre in Long Island City. It was full of song, laughter, bravery, and joy, and wouldn’t have been possible without our extraordinary audiences. This past month, I had the enormous pleasure of taking my first class with Heidi Marshall at her studio. For four weeks, we worked on de-mystifying the on-camera audition, and had a lot of fun while doing it! I learned a ton about myself as an actor, self-advocate, and person in the world.

For my last scene, a classmate assigned me a scene from Girls, which you can watch below! I’m so looking forward to being back in class with Heidi soon. xo

Welcome to Stock!

Footage has started coming back from an upstate weekend in the beginning of October shooting the pilot episode of Stock, created by the inimitable Jordan Ari Gross and directed by the incredible Lindsey Ruggles.

Stock follows a zany summer populated by a cast of ridiculous characters on contract at Bombsheel Theater. I play Melanie, an actress who has no idea what she’s gotten herself into… until it’s too late! My sides were hurting from laughter days later, it was such a joy to create with this entire team. Multi-sensory, Mythological MUSE at the Secret Theatre

I’ve been having the most wonderful time for the past week, returning to work with Bluelaces Theatre Company on a new immersive, sensory-based play for audiences with autism and other developmental differences called Muse.

Muse is a mythologically-based tale of adventure, unlikely heroes, and hope, particularly centering on a retelling of the Persephone myth. I’ll be playing Gwyn, the Persephone character who goes missing and leads the ensemble and audience on a journey through to ‘the End of the Line’. Full of silliness, heart, and original music, Muse is going to be a joy to bring to audiences at The Secret Theatre in Long Island City from October 18th-November 3rd.

"Our sharp wars are ended..."

Last weekend, Hamlet Isn’t Dead’s Troilus & Cressida came to a close. It was such a joy speaking Shakespeare’s text and telling such a powerful story with a wonderful group of equally powerful women.

So excited to start work soon on an all-female powerhouse production of Troilus & Cressida with Hamlet Isn’t Dead, a wonderful NYC-based Shakespeare company.

Augustus: Updates

Exciting news! Life After Augustus, the gorgeous short film I was a part of back in the fall, is officially complete! The entire film hasn’t been released to the public yet, but here are some sneak peeks: a few stills and an updated reel that includes a scene from the film.

Watching it back reminds me of what a special time it was shooting this story, and I look forward to working with the whole team again someday. xo

SURPRISE!

This past month, I got to be a part of a staged reading of Surprising Simon: A Modern Farce at The People’s Improv Theater. The play was written by a friend from college (a former RA!), and the reading was a perfect example of what everyone promises you in undergrad: your classmates will become your collaborators! The reading was a ton of fun, and I hope that Surprising Simon continues to have a life on the stage. xo

"Now you're in the Laundry League!"

I’m feeling absolutely bubbly to be joining the ranks of Bluelaces Theatre Company’s “Laundry League” for their upcoming remount of SUDS, an immersive play for audience members with autism and other developmental differences.

SUDS is a fun-filled journey through the process of washing clothes in Lavender’s Laundromat, complete with singing laundry enthusiasts, a dancing sweatshirt, and a laundry monster (who is actually pretty friendly). The play has been in development for the past year, and will be in residency at Long Island University for a sold-out run in the beginning of May.

I’ll be sporting my official Laundry League bowling shirt and touring audience members around the world of SUDS as an Adventure Guide, and I and the rest of the company couldn’t be more excited to start playing with audiences next week.

Yes, and...

Yay! After taking a brief hiatus from performing comedy after graduating college, I’m so excited to have reached the class show of my UCB Improv 101 class. It’s been such fun getting to know this group of characters for the past 8 weeks, and discovering the joy of improv all over again. The performance will be at UCB Hell’s Kitchen on February 22nd, and is sure to be a silly & supportive time. xo

Life after ‘Life After Augustus’

Happy New Year!

Hope everyone is staying warm - we’ve finally moved into that bitter New York winter I’ve heard so much about.

So pleased to have received some rough stills from a short film I was a part of in November - Life After Augustus, written and directed by George Monard. The film follows two cousins and their uncle as they slowly and quietly begin to cope with the death of their grandfather. I had the loveliest time shooting it, and am excited for it to be released this upcoming year.

Congratulations to the Emerson College class of 2018!

On May 13th, 2018, I graduated Emerson with my BFA in Theatre and Performance and having written a capstone thesis for the Honors Department about the empowering effect studying voice can have on young women. 

I'm beyond proud to have graduated alongside that class, and very excited for what the future has in store. xo 

A deep-down, true-blue, genuinely felt, preferably pleasurable adventure!

I recently had the privilege this spring of traveling to the Orkney islands - off of the northernmost tip of Scotland - and studying Advanced Voice and Text and Introductory Shakespeare with Kristin Linklater, master voice teacher and all-around fierce and wonderful woman. 

My classmates and I spent two weeks exploring the physical and emotional capacities of our voices, as well as delving deep into Shakespeare's endlessly rich and captivating text. (And all of this with the backdrop of a gorgeous Scottish isle, where the wind raged and the sheep outnumbered the people by an extraordinary margin.)

I'll not soon forget the experiences I had there and the people I met, and I so look forward to going back someday. xo

Hello, it's Madeline again! This fall, I recently started my last semester at Emerson College, finishing up undergraduate degree. As my farewell to Emerson, I'm over the moon to have been cast as Mrs. Bennet (Oh, my nerves!) in Emerson Stage's upcoming production of Jon Jory's TYA adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

The show runs from December 1st-9th, 2017, and will have performances open to the public as well as performances where school groups are brought in for some Regency silliness. 

It'll be a whole lot of fun and a whole lot of empire waists, and I can't wait to start rehearsals! xo

What a joy and a privilege!

My directorial debut, Mercutio Troupe's Peter and the Starcatcher, finished its run this past April. I couldn't be prouder of the incredible team that brought their hearts and souls to the production, it was really a dream come true to do a thing like that with each and every one of them!
